Rosin Esters

Resin esters are rosin-based hard and soft resins used as tackifiers mainly in adhesives, but also in coating systems. Resin esters are produced by esterification of rosin with monohydric and polyhydric alcohols. They are mainly formulation components in adhesives such as hotmelt adhesives (100% systems), waterborne and solventborne adhesives, especially flooring adhesives: Low VOC variants according to EC1+ and Blue Angel eco standard (RAL-.UZ 113) are available. Due to the residual content of hydroxyl groups, resin esters can also be used in 2K-PUR systems to improve adhesion. The hard glycerin and penta esters are also used as adhesion resins in road marking paints, sealing lacquers and also in oil boils and printing inks.
